Amazing Nikaah Stories of the Sahabah Radhi Allahu Anhum

Belief in Taqdeer

Abu Darda Radhi Allahu Anhu accompanied Salmaan Faarsi Radhi Allahu Anhu to propose for the hand of a girl from the tribe of Banu Laith who Salmaan Farsi Radhi Allahu Anhu wanted to marry. Abu Darda Radhi Allahu Anhu entered and mentioned the excellent qualities of Salmaan Faarsi Radhi Allahu Anhu and his valuable contribution to Islam. He explained that Salmaan Faarsi Radhi Allahu Anhu was interested in marrying their daughter.

They responded : "We will not marry Salmaan to our daughter but we are happy to marry her to you!"

In this way, Abu Darda Radhi Allahu Anhu married the girl and then left the tribe. When he met Salmaan Faarsi Radhi Allahu Anhu he explained : "I feel shy to tell you what has happened."

Salmaan Faarsi Radhi Allahu Anhu asked : "What has happened?"

Abu Darda Radhi Allahu Anhu explained to him what had transpired.

Salmaan Faarsi Radhi Allahu Anhu responded : "I should feel more shy than you because I had proposed for a girl who Allah Ta'ala had predestined for you!" (Tabraani)

A wise woman

Nabi Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam once proposed to the father of a woman from the Ansaar on behalf of Julaibeeb. The father said : "Allow me to first consult with her mother."

Nabi Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam agreed. The father then left to discuss the issue with his wife.
She remarked : "Never! Did Nabi Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam not find anybody besides Julaibeeb, whereas we have declined the proposals of so and so?"

In the meanwhile, the daughter was quietly listening to the discussion. Just as the father was about go out and inform Nabi Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam of their decision, the daughter said : "Do you intend to reject the proposal made by the Prophet Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam. If Nabi Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam is happy to marry him in your family then proceed with the marriage."

They replied : "You are correct."

The father went to Nabi Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam and said : "If you are pleased with him, so are we."
Nabi Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam responded : "I am pleased with him."

The marriage was performed.

Julaibeeb later participated in a battle. After the battle had ended Nabi Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam noticed that Julaibeeb was missing and instructed the Sahabah to search for him. His body was found in the midst of a number of disbelievers who he had killed. Nabi Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam came to him and said : "He killed seven disbelievers and the disbelivers killed him. He is from me and I am from him."

Nabi Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam carried him in his arms and burried him. Nabi Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam also made a dua for his widow : "O Allah, shower Your blessings upon her and let not her life be one of hardship." A narrator of the incident mentions that no widow from the Ansaar would spend as much as her (meaning that she became very well to do.) (Musnad Ahmad)
